The city of Guimarães
Located in the northwest of Portugal, in a region of millennial occupation, the urban origin of Guimarães dates back to the Middle Ages, maintaining its architectural expression until today.
Guimarães is a 21th modern city, which, combined with its industrial traditions, grounded its development in an active cooperation with the University of Minho, as well by offering a series of cultural and sporting facilities that make this city an attractive place to hold an young population.
Having in mind its roots, the preservation of its historic centre had its highest recognition with the classification of World Cultural Heritage by Unesco in 2001.
